Gladstone Mindcare Hub celebrates first birthday
Gladstone Mindcare was established as a local not for profit charity following extensive research into the mental health and wellbeing needs of the Gladstone community funded by Here for Gladstone. The Gladstone Mindcare Hub officially opened its’ doors on 2 February 2021 after purchase and extensive refurbishment made possible by McCosker Contracting and the Gladstone Foundation.
The Gladstone Mindcare Hub, located at 147 Goondoon Street, is a safe and inclusive community space for the people of Gladstone to obtain information and referral to mental health and wellbeing supports as well as social connection and health promotion activities. It is also a co-working space for service providers who provide mental health and wellbeing support and who collectively work to improve the wellbeing of the Gladstone community.
Dani Appleby, Coordinator of Gladstone Mindcare, said, “We’re really proud of what we’ve achieved in our first year. We acknowledge and are so grateful to McCosker Contracting, Here for Gladstone and all of the local businesses and individuals who have supported us to create this community space. Our journey has just begun and we look forward to continuing to promote improved mental health and wellbeing in Gladstone.”
In its’ first year of operation, Gladstone Mindcare has:
- Welcomed 2,204 people to receive support or participate in groups
- Held 23 free events promoting improved mental health and wellbeing
- Supported 109 people to access support
- Trained 65 community members in Mental Health First Aid
- Hosted 153 meetings / groups
- Welcomed 12 co-locating partner organisations and visiting services
- Facilitated collective action towards improving mental health and wellbeing outcomes for Gladstone, in particular community-led initiatives in suicide prevention and drug use harm minimisation.

We started working on the project in 2014 and, after the years of planning, community collaboration and research that brought the Hub to life in 2021, it’s great to see it celebrating its first year of operation.”
