CASI Charity Formed
The Collective Action Social Impact Ltd (CASI) charity has been formed through the collaborative efforts of mental health, alcohol and other drug service providers who support the findings of the Rio Tinto-led Mental Health Alcohol and Other Drugs (MHAOD) key findings report:
These findings identified significant barriers to access information to get support and a fragmented system for referring and supporting consumers through their health journey.
In order for the MHAOD Project to implement these changes, we needed to create a new entity to become the vehicle for this change. This vehicle (the Charity) will represent both services and consumers, be community-led and owned, and work collaboratively to identify system changes to support access and improve service delivery in Gladstone. In addition, CASI has been set up to be financially self-sustaining in the long run with seed funding from Here for Gladstone.
CASI’s plan is to re-engineer the way support services are offered in Gladstone to deliver help more efficiently, to reduce barriers to services, to collate information for people in the one spot and to introduce an integrated offer to better refer people to other providers where required.
CASI’s strategic plan is based on two major themes – to be sustainable and collaborative. CASI’s roll is to be an advocate and a networking group to connect services, activities and information to those people who need it most.
Our success will be through our working groups, consumer groups and our Board of Directors, ensuring this remains a community-led, collective action approach to changing the system to better support our community.
