Progressive Youth Innov8ors program launches at Gladstone State High School
This morning at Gladstone State High School Start Up Gladstone launched their Youth Innovators (pilot) program.
The Youth Innov8ors (pilot) program is possible through a partnership between Start Up Gladstone, Here for Gladstone (a partnership between Rio Tinto Yarwun, Boyne Smelters Limited and Queensland Alumina Limited), Gladstone Area Waterboard, Queensland Government,, and APLNG ConocoPhillips.
The objective of this program is to encourage innovation in our youth, to show them that the support is available to develop their ideas as they are the leaders of our future. This program aims to support the students to think outside the box and know that the sky is the limit.
The Youth Innov8ors (pilot) program was introduced via webcall to the school by Dr. Sarah Pearson (Deputy General for the Department of Innovation and Tourism Industry Development).
The launch of the Youth Innov8ors (pilot) program is a huge milestone in the movement forward for Gladstone Teriary Education, to look into the future and make sure the the Gladstone Youth is well equipped for where ever it may lead.
The Youth Innov8or (pilot) program will focus on developing problem solving capabilities through curriculum based activities in the digital technologies sector at the High School level.
The pilot program will run over 10 week and will include learners from Years 8 to 10 and approximately 150 students. During the 10 week program the students will be challenged with solving a real world problem put forward by NBN and GAWB. The students will be mentored by industry leaders from GAWB, Oracle, NBN & QAL.
After the 10 week program, on the 1st of April 2021, a handful of students will be selected to present their concepts at a “pitch day” presentation, where all involved can see the real world solutions the young minds have come up with.
The pilot of the Youth Innov8ors program will provide feedback that will then be incorporated into the final program, starting in the second semester of 2021).
